Our team at our Medina, OH, animal hospital are not only experienced professionals but are passionate about what they do. Our Veterinarian

Dr. Hicks
Dr. Hicks, Veterinarian
With 38 years of experience in veterinary medicine, Dr. Steven Hicks brings unwavering dedication and compassion to every patient he cares for. He attended Ohio State University, where he built the foundation for a career defined by purpose and integrity. He believes that great veterinary care starts with a simple principle: patients always come first. His approach is thoughtful and intentional—providing pets with everything they need, but only what they need—and he always takes time to speak with and educate pet owners.

His career began at Akron Medina Veterinary Hospital while he was still in high school, and he has proudly remained part of the team ever since.

Outside of work, Dr. Hicks enjoys spending time with his family and fishing.

Sally
Sally, Veterinary Technician
Sally Moore has been working in the veterinary field for 15 years and brings a strong commitment to both patient care and client education. She studied at Stautzenberger and has built a reputation for being thorough, compassionate, and dedicated to supporting both pets and their families.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Katie
Katie, Veterinary Technician
Katie Lewis has been working in the veterinary field for 7 years and brings a calm, focused presence to every patient she cares for. She studied at Cuyahoga Community College and takes particular pride in supporting surgery patients, ensuring they receive attentive and thorough care throughout every step of the process.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys hiking, kayaking, and spending time outdoors. She shares her home with a German Shepherd mix who keeps life active and fun.

Tabetha Dudek
Tabetha,Veterinary Assistant/Technician
Tabetha Dudek has been working in the veterinary field since May 2014. She studied at Northcoast Medical Training Academy and Penn Foster, and brings over a decade of hands-on experience to her role. Tabetha takes pride in seeing patients recover and return home to their families—it’s the most rewarding part of her work.

Outside of work, Tabetha enjoys walking trails with her dogs.

Katie Jones
Katie, Kennel Manager
Katie Jones has been in the veterinary field for 3 years and is dedicated to ensuring every patient receives the care they need and the attention they deserve. She studied at Cloverleaf and Penn Foster, and takes pride in meeting each patient’s individual needs while creating the best possible experience for both pets and their owners.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys kayaking, hiking, fishing, and going on adventures with her dogs.

Mackenzie
Mackenzie, Kennel Attendant
Mackenzie Cumston has been working in the veterinary field for a little over a year and takes pride in making sure every patient is well cared for each day. A graduate of Ellet High School, she is committed to doing a thorough job and ensuring that every animal’s needs are met.

Outside of work, Mackenzie enjoys taking her dogs to the park on nice days and spending time with friends and family. She shares her home with 11 animals, making every day full of energy and companionship.

Shawn, Kennel Attendant
Shawn Starkey has been working in the veterinary field for 4 years and takes pride in knowing that their work truly makes a difference in the lives of animals. A graduate of Kenmore High School, Shawn is dedicated to providing attentive, compassionate care to every patient.

Outside of work, Shawn enjoys spending time with their son and relaxing by the fire.

Sterling Pedersen
Sterling, Receptionist

Sterling Pedersen has been in the veterinary field for 2 years. She studied at Clarion University and prides herself on her attention to detail and genuine interest in every patient. She helps create a welcoming, supportive environment for both pets and their owners.

Outside of work she enjoys sewing, reading, and hiking. Raised in the Pocono Mountains, she looks forward to one day hiking the entire Appalachian Trail.

Laura Walker
Laura, Receptionist
Laura Walker joined the veterinary field 7 months ago and brings a compassionate, personal touch to every interaction. With a background in Music and Creative Writing from Denison University, she combines creativity and communication to make every client and patient feel welcome and cared for.

Laura prides herself on treating each pet and their family with genuine kindness, taking the time to get to know them individually.

Outside of work, she enjoys painting, writing, baking, gardening, and spending quality time with her pets and family. She also speaks French.

Peyton Lewis
Peyton, Receptionist
Peyton Lewis has been in the veterinary field for one year and brings a welcoming presence to the front desk. She studied at Hopkinsville Community College and takes pride in making sure both patients and their owners feel comfortable and supported during their visit.

Outside of work, Peyton enjoys hiking, fishing, and watching movies with her husband and their poodle. She recently got married and enjoys spending quality time with her growing family.

Marissa, Groomer

Sue
Sue, Pet Groomer

Sue moved to Ohio in 1998 from a small town in Oklahoma. She gave her first “haircut” to her mother’s poodle at age 10, and her career took off from there! Previously, she enjoyed dog handling in 4H and has been working in the “dog world” ever since. Sue joined the Akron-Medina Veterinary Hospital & Pet Resort team in 2003. She states that it has been the most wonderful job and a pleasure to work with all of her special dogs and clients—with room in her heart for many more!
