Dr. Hicks

Dr. Hicks, Veterinarian

Dr. Hicks began working at Akron Medina Veterinary Hospital while he was a student at Copley High School.  Then, he continued working at the hospital while also attending The Ohio State University.  While there, Dr. Hicks received a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science then went on to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1995.  He immediately joined Akron Medina Veterinary Hospital as an associate, and soon after became the practice owner.

He credits his mentor, Dr. Alessio, a veterinarian who founded Akron Medina Veterinary Hospital in 1965, with teaching him the importance of meticulous attention to detail and excellent communication skills.  Dr. Hicks focuses on all aspects of small animal medicine, including wellness and preventive care, internal medicine, dentistry, and soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.  “My goal is to provide each and every patient with everything they need, but only what they need to keep them happy and healthy, while providing pet owners with exceptional service as I strive to solve all of their pet care concerns.”

When not at the hospital, Dr. Hicks enjoys spending time at home with his wife of more than 20 years and their pet dog and two cats.  When time permits, he is also an avid fisherman, a hobby he shares with his son and close friends.

melanie

Ready to try again, she got a second rescue dog, Maggie, a Treeing Walker Coonhound, and lost her to cancer after only 10 months. She is looking forward to giving another rescue dog a home when she is ready.

Katie has previously worked with a rescue organization caring for a variety of rescued and abused animals, as well as a K-9 organization caring for bomb and drug-sniffing dogs. Katie joined us in 2019 and is enjoying working with our team!

Sierra has always had a soft spot in her heart for animals. She grew up around a lot of dogs and even, at one time, goats, too, so she became an animal lover early on. Sierra moved to Medina in 2014 and began her career in veterinary medicine. After realizing this is what she wanted to do, she applied to the Medina County Career Center in 2017 for their animal management and care program. She expects to graduate this year!

At home, Sierra has two dogs: a Louisiana Leopard dog named Chase (who’s a little crazy sometimes!) and a Yorkipoo, Duke.
