Pet Wellness Care in Medina, OH
Health for any of us is constantly in flux. There are some days when you may feel a little down and out, and much of the time it’s nothing but fatigue or a slight cold. However, persistent issues could point to a larger problem. For pets and their shorter lives, health changes can happen much more rapidly. Not only that, but their needs change with every stage of their life.
Care for the Little Ones
Puppies and kittens are at a very vulnerable stage of their lives and require more extensive care than adults. Just like human newborns, their immune systems are still developing, which makes them more susceptible to disease and illness. If you’ve recently adopted a puppy or kitten, we recommend you bring them in for an initial examination where we can assess their needs and get them on a vaccination schedule. Until they are about 4-5 months old, they’ll need to be seen for pet exams every 3 weeks – which can align with their vaccine boosters for your convenience.
During your first visit with us, we’ll discuss:
Vaccinations
Both core and lifestyle. Some pets who are outdoors a lot or boarded frequently may require additional lifestyle vaccines.
Nutritional Counseling
To ensure your pet is receiving what they need to grow into strong, healthy adults.
Parasite Prevention
Puppies and kittens can sometimes be born parasites. Testing is essential so we can begin treatments right away.
Growing Up: Care for Adults
Young dogs and cats are typically in the prime of their life and require less hands-on maintenance than puppies and kittens. Still, that doesn’t mean they should stop seeing the veterinarian for pet wellness care! We recommend annual checkups regardless if your pet is showing any signs of illness. Regular care helps us catch any potential problems as they develop, so we can start a treatment plan right away.
Areas we like to highlight in adult pet exams include:
Up-to-date Vaccinations and Pest Prevention
Nutritional Counseling
As they grow, their dietary needs change, and some may even develop food allergies, so it’s important they get the food that is best for them.
Dental Health
Your pet’s teeth need daily cleaning just like yours – though sometimes that isn’t possible. Plenty of teeth cleaning options exist to help keep your pet’s mouth healthy.
Regular Bloodwork and Diagnostics
Knowing what your pet’s numbers are in helps us recognize subtle changes, so we can address issues quickly.
Care for Our Senior Pets
Life always comes full circle. When your pet reaches senior status, their health starts to become vulnerable again. We may recommend that you bring them in for cat and dog exams bi-annually, so we can keep a closer eye on any conditions that could develop.
Age-related illnesses are often subtle, and symptoms can be easy to miss. Changes in your pet’s behavior, energy level, or appetite should be reported to your veterinarian. Additionally, while you may be inclined to let your pet enjoy a nice lay down and lounge around, it’s important to keep up their exercise, as it helps with body weight and strengthening joints.
Important elements of senior pet wellness plans include:
Bi-annual Checkups with Regular Bloodwork
This helps us set up a baseline for your pet’s health, so if anything does deteriorate, we can know the gravity of the change right away.
Dietary Changes
Again, nutrition needs are changing! As our beloved pets transition into their golden years, their calorie requirements decrease. It’s essential to be mindful of their food portion and minimize treat indulgences during this stage.
Appealing to Their Needs
As pets age, they may develop arthritis, making it hard to move around, and they may even lose some or all of their hearing and eyesight. Be patient and do what you can to keep them out of harm’s way.
